Frequently asked questions

Who are we?

We are a collective of independent mental health counselors united by a shared mission: to create a safe, nurturing space where individuals can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences, embarking on a transformative journey toward healing and self-discovery.

**Each counselor operates their own practice, manages their own schedule, and is individually credentialed with insurance providers.

Presence of Therapy Dogs:

To provide additional therapeutic options for clients, Kaleidoscope Counseling Group regularly uses therapy dogs.

All Therapy Dogs are being supervised by a handler and member of Kaleidoscope Counseling Group. Therapy Dogs work with children, adolescents, and adults under the supervision of the on-duty handler. Our Therapy Dogs are groomed daily and are regularly seen by professional veterinarians ensuring proper health, wellness, and disposition. Things to know about Therapy Dogs:

  • The on-duty handler accompanies all Therapy Dogs around the Clinic. Clients are not allowed to be alone with therapy dogs for the safety of all involved.

  • If you are afraid of dogs, have allergies to dogs, have an auto-immune disease, have cancer or going through cancer treatment, or have respiratory problems, please let the staff or your counselor know immediately.

  • Please treat the Therapy Dogs gently (e.g., no hitting; pulling tail, hair, ears; yelling, or any other actions that may cause the dogs to become uncomfortable and/or jeopardizing their safety).

  • If at any time, our Therapy Dogs show signs of distress, irritation, or fear, then they will be removed from the situation by the on-duty handler.

  • Just like people, dogs too, sometimes do not want to participate in an activity or may not like to interact with a person. In such events, please respect the therapy dogs’ space following all handler instructions.

Risks associated with Therapy Dogs:

  • Animals, like humans, can get anxious, scared, or irritated among other emotions; however, their responses to these emotions are not always the same as humans. If therapy dogs respond in an unsafe manner to an uncomfortable situation, the on-duty handler will remove the Therapy Dog(s) from the situation.

  • Therapy Dogs are groomed daily, including the maintenance of their nails. To avoid injury, clients are asked not to play directly with the paws of Therapy Dogs.

How do I choose the right counselor?

Your connection with your counselor plays a crucial role in the counseling journey. Each counselor specializes in addressing certain issues and employs distinct approaches tailored to those concerns. Explore the profiles of our providers and select the counselor who resonates with you. Additionally, visit their individual websites for further insight. If you find someone who captures your interest, reach out to them directly to arrange a consultation.

How much do sessions cost? And do you take insurance?

Some of our providers are in the network with some insurance panels. This may be listed on their individual provider page. If it is not, please contact the provider directly regarding participation in insurance panels. We have provided some general guidelines and information about insurance benefits for behavioral health services below:

Insurance is an agreement between you and your insurance company as to how your counseling will be paid for. This benefits agreement can usually be found either on the website of your insurance carrier or by calling the number on the back of your insurance card.  Insurance may cover some or all of the cost of therapy. Please call the number on the back of your insurance card to verify your behavioral health benefits. It is helpful to ask the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits?

  • What is my deductible and has it been met?

  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?

  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

  • Is approval required from my primary care physician

In Network
In-network means that your counselor has contracted with your insurance company to provide services for a contracted rate. If your counselor is in-network with your insurance, they will file claims for your insurance company, and you are responsible for copays and deductibles as they are determined by your insurance company.  We are in-network with a few insurance panels and can accept insurance with those panels. Please check with your counselor regarding participation in panels.

Out of Network
Out-of-network means that your counselor does not have a contract with your insurance company. If your counselor is out of network then you will be responsible for payment for your session at the time of service. Your counselor will give you a form called a “superbill”. A superbill is a detailed invoice that you can submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement of your counseling session costs. In some cases, your counselor can file out-of-network claims for you as a courtesy to you. In this case, you will need to pay for the full cost of your session at the time of service, and your counselor will file the claim for you rather than using a superbill.

**Please note that reimbursement is not guaranteed, so we recommend checking with your insurance provider for coverage details.
